The Narrative Enneagram
The Enneagram is a personality type system that identifies nine different core motivations. Understanding what drives us can be a powerful tool for building compassion for ourselves and others.
I began training with the Narrative Enneagram in 2021, after a full year of pandemic life. In the midst of the pandemic, I was looking for a system that would speak to the collective distress we were experiencing.
I turned to the Enneagram because it had been so profound in my own development, and in understanding dynamics in my most personal relationships. I participated in a Typing Interview in 2018, where I learned I lead with SP 4 (don’t worry if you don’t know what that means!). II could imagine that helping others to understand their type structure could be a way to help them deepen their own relationship with self, others, and the holy.
I had no idea then just how helpful, deepening, and revolutionary bringing the Enneagram into my practice would be. I am particularly drawn to the language Chichi Agorom uses in her book The Enneagram for Black Liberation, where she compares type structure to armor, and explores the concept that we create our personalities as protection. That image helped me to hold my own personality structure with compassion, and to access my true self within, the one who is always one with and inseparable from God.
Enneagram Services
I am delighted to share that in June 2023 I was certified as a practitioner in the Narrative Enneagram. I am now offering Enneagram-specific services - both Typing Interviews and Enneagram Direction sessions.
Typing Interviews are an hour-long conversation on Zoom to help you discern your type structure. For some of us, we know immediately what number we lead with. For others, it’s less clear, and we can spend years circling around the diagram, trying to hone in on our type. I think a typing interview is the best gift we can give ourselves. In the Narrative tradition, we center your story and lived experience, and listen deeply to your life to help you find your personality structure.
Enneagram Direction Sessions are hour-long spiritual direction sessions that use the Enneagram as our framework for conversation and growth. These are targeted sessions, to help you identify and develop your understanding of your type structure, how it shapes and impacts your relationship with God, and to also listen together for spiritual practices that will help you to loosen your type structure and experience greater union with God. I offer these in 1, 2, or 3 session packages.
